The Ghanaian movie industry in the past had chalked several feats both locally and internationally with movies like The Cursed Ones, Children of the Mountain, No Time to Die, and Out of the Village.
Today there can be little said of the progress of filmmaking in Ghana.
Four reasons we believe are a contributory factor to the gradual deterioration of the movie industry include the following;
1. Lack of adequate funding

Meagre allocation of funds by the government to the film industry has been a source of discouragement for many up and coming movie makers.
With the high cost of movie making in mind, very few have braved the odds to venture into a full time filmmaking career.
2. A not so lucrative venture for actors

Many Ghanaian actors and actresses like Jackie Appiah, Toosweet Annan, and James Gardiner are largely practising their craft in the Nigerian movie industry.
There have been complaints lodged by many Ghanaian actors about the insufficient income they make acting in Ghanaian movies, hence the shift to other locations for acting roles.
3. Lack of competition and creativity

Movie making is a creative adventure. Productive and and positive competition among producers and directors births creativity to help boost the industry.
A lack of this has been issues plaguing the movie industry.
4. Insufficient filmmaking equipment

With high definition and quality cameras, sound, and lighting equipment comes the best of filmmaking experience.
Undeniably, not many filmmakers in Ghana have the financially capacity to employ the use of these high technology movie equipment and accessories.
